Austin ISD is borrowing $140M to cover payroll while the state reviews its spending.

Burnet and Webb Middle petitions are due Oct 15, six days from now.

According to Austin Current, the district is borrowing $140M to cover payroll and operating costs until property-tax money comes in. Separately, the state comptroller's performance review of AISD, Barbers Hill, El Paso and Prosper is due by Dec 31 (KUT). It matters this week because each petition needs signatures from parents of more than half the students at that school. Superintendent Segura checks the petitions and sends valid ones to the TEA by Dec 1, and Education Commissioner Mike Morath decides (KUT). One caveat: the $140M figure comes from Austin Current's reporting, not a posted AISD document, and no signature counts are public.
