Every Austin police officer will have to take crisis-intervention training.

APD announced the change after police fatally shot a 17-year-old in July.

KUT reports that police fatally shot 17-year-old Anthoneil Williams II in July while he carried only a water bottle. APD says he made the 911 call himself, and it wasn't flagged as a mental health call. APD says crisis-intervention training is expanding and will be required for every officer. The civilian-run 911 center will add a manager to review call quality. Chief Lisa Davis called it likely "suicide by police." The department is weighing drones but hasn't decided. The shooting is still under investigation. Source: KUT
