The Texas Department of Public Safety says it stopped a planned attack on the Capitol last week. KUT reports DPS said it found a credible threat to attack the Capitol on Oct. 1. KUT reports DPS said there is no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the Texas State Capitol.

KUT reports the accused man is Benny Caldera Jr. of Converse. KUT reports he was charged with felony terroristic threat against a public servant, and that county documents set bond at $75,000. KUT reports DPS said the FBI then took him from the Bexar County jail into federal custody, and that he is not out on bond.

KUT reports the U.S. Attorney’s Office said he also faces a federal charge of possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and up to five years if convicted. KUT reports prosecutors allege he told another person he planned to go to the Capitol and “shoot it up.” He is accused. He has not been convicted.
