Austin Public Health confirmed a second measles case in Travis County in 2026. The patient is an unvaccinated infant. APH says the likely exposure was international travel.
The patient visited two clinics while infectious: Vik Complete Care Lakeway, 1518 Ranch Rd 620 S Bldg. H Suite 200, on Sept. 5, and Texas Children’s Pediatrics Hill Country Pediatrics, 6618 Sitio Del Rio Blvd Ste A101, on Sept. 8. APH and the clinics are notifying potentially exposed patients. Texas Children’s said it has reached all patient families.
Dr. Desmar Walkes, Austin-Travis County Health Authority, said measles is a serious risk with kids back in school, and that two MMR doses is full protection. Measles can linger in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours. If you think you were exposed, APH says to contact a healthcare provider and remain isolated at home.
